The rise of a kingdom
We haven’t seen that since 40 years or more. Certainly the enemy has changed since that time, but today we are seeing something unbelievable. The Arabs countries are united together to face a new enemy.
It’s not a joke; it’s what really happens on the field right now. More than 10 countries are in, and many more will join the coalition after the Arab summit in Sharm el-Sheikh. They also named it « The DECISIVE STORM ». It’s funny, it’s remind me of « DESERT STORM ».
All these energies and determinations, all these armies, all these airs and marine power, gathered together to defeat a bunch of Arab and Muslim people, the Houthis, who are trying for many months to steal the power from the government in place led by President Mansour Hedi.
All this was, and still, happening in Yemen, a country that have 1500 Km shared with the southern of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. So it’s obvious that Saudi Arabia leads this coalition to establish order in this area. However, this is not the only reason.
Houthis are also Shiite, this means that they are supported by Iran. So Saudis had to react to preserve their domination in the Gulf. And they have been preparing themselves to this since many years.
If we take a look at the numbers of 2014 and 2015 you will see what is, really, happening.
In fact, Saudi Arabia had spent more than 6.4 billion dollars in purchasing weapons. That amount let Riyadh take the first place as the largest importer of weapons in the world in the last year. Also, they are the fourth country in the world in the defense budget for 2015. They project to spend more than 56 billion dollars (the top 3 are USA, Russia and China). After that it’s clear that these guys are preparing for war. Yet they won’t take all the responsibilities here, so they copied US model like in Irak in 1990 and 2003 and today against Daesh. They create a coalition of Sunnite countries to liberate Yemen from Shiite threat and Iranian influence.
All this said, I don’t deny that Yemen needs help to bring back order and peace but not this way. I think that this coalition is aiming the wrong enemy here. The real one in the Middle-east is Israel. All these countries united together against the Yemenite Houthis must use all this strength to make pressure on Israel to sign a peace treaty not playing their game.
USA and Israel are playing “good cop, bad cop” with Iran and they don’t want to get their hands dirty with risking a direct conflict. They have learned very well the lesson. Now they will step aside and let the Arabs do the dirty work for them using the historical Sunnite Shiite conflict.
In the mean time, I hope that all these things will not blow up in the face of everyone on this earth.
